PostSubject: A Cliffhanger (Ani vs. Stion)   Thu Feb 05, 2009 8:28 pm

Stion stood in the shadow cast by a listing tower. The wanderer had long-since settled the swathe of color-shifting cloth across his shoulders, a simple brooch of worked brass held the cloak around his neck. The most skilled observer would be hard-pressed to see the blind man standing against the granite wall, as the hooded cloak kept him well-hidden. Not to mention the magic we wove through it, hiding him further from prying eyes.

Stion had followed his orders to this compound to meet another in single combat, and he had scouted it thoroughly.

The area he stood in now sat atop a cliff above a raging torrent of water. A cobblestoned area, about ninety yards square, was hemmed in by a twenty-foot wall. The wall in question was heavily worn, with some areas missing altogether or sagging beneath their weight over damaged foundations.

A two story tall building had been centered in the compound, its rotten double-doors fasting east, to their larger counterparts at the gate. The area within had once been a noble's manor, with many rooms all furnished lavishly. Or had been, once. Now only tattered remains were left of tapestries, and splinters of furniture.

To the west of the compound was the mighty River Erinin, who had coursed its way into the ground, forming a canyon. Many ledges and caves dotted the canyon walls. He had not had enough time to explore any of them.

For a good ten feet from the walls was only short brush, nothing taller than his six feet, two inches. After that short stretch of brush, however, came the forests. Tall trees, their canopies preventing any light from entering, sheltered a barren forest floor. Vines hung, and the leaf litter was thick. From time to time an inhuman howl echoed from its depths.

Suddenly the quiet wind suddenly picked up into a whirling howl as flashes of green light within the ruins flashed in quick sucessions blinding for a moment everything around it. Havus steps out from within this light examining everything around him at the desolated tower soaking in the light through an open doorway.

He sighs relieved a bit from an encounter in which he had just escaped and steps outside into the sunshine into the what seemed to have been remains to a seemingly what use to be a large building. Examining the silver tapestries as he walks by wondering what world he is in.

Flashes of green filled the courtyard, surprising Stion for a moment, but hardly blinding him. The magic that gave him sight was not affected by changes in light, but it registered them. From seemingly nothing a man stepped out.

It was too far to hear anything, but he seemed to sigh. After a brief glance around he stepped into the former manor.

Interesting, Stion thought, gliding from his position on soft boots. As he moved the color-shifting cloak swept back, revealing a muscled, and oddly dressed, frame. A knee-length coat hugged his torso, before flaring at the waist. Cruas, his backsword, hung at his left hip from a wide leather belt. The strap was clasped with a buckle of worked bronze.

His baggy trousers shifted slightly with each step, bloused over the tops of his turned-down boots. Coat and trousers were black, the boots brown, with a gray interior. A remarkable pair of gloves adorned his hands, the right fingerless, and decorated with runes in patterns, and the left palmless, and decorated with a three by three square of runes.

A blacksmith's puzzle hung from a leather cord about his neck, and a diamond heavy with impurities wrapped around his left index finger. Beneath the hood his cloak Stion had swept his hat to the back of his neck, hiding the knot of a scarf that covered his eyes. A silver chain, with circular links engraved with eyes decorated his hat. A line of runes ran around the bottom of the folded scarf across his eyes.

Once inside the building Stion slowed his pace. It would be no use to be spotted here, as his Illusion magics did not work when cast on a moving target. Tapestries, silvered with age, hung from the walls. The newcomer stood before him, facing away.

I wonder... A bit of rubble grated loudly against the flagstone floors of the manor. He froze immediately, but it was far too late to gather his cloak properly around him, he would be spotted.

With a sigh, he flung back his hood, with magic, and lifted his wide-brimmed black hat atop his head. With the material that comprised the hood gone a strikingly handsome face was revealed. A salt-and pepper beard, not longer than stubble, covered the lower part of his face, but the rest of the visible skin was lightly tanned.

Havus paused as if to listen to someone talking to him. He thought that if anyone was nearbye they might of though him crazy because he seemed to be muttering to himself when really His Sword, which he named Choco, commented about things around the room in in his head.

Suddenly Choco, who is hung at Havu's back by a Balric, told that he was being watched by a strange man apparantly using some kind of magic. Havus curious pretended to keep examining the tapestries wondered if this person was friend or foe.

Just then some rubble shifted behind him as Havus looked at the vague reflection of the stranger through the Silver tapestries.

Havus: Hello stranger i was wondering when you were going to show yourself

Havus turns to face the Stranger examining him. He looked up and down at what seemed to be a travelers outfit though with the obvious signs of magic symbols at his hands.

Choco: (in Havus's head) well at least the fashion here is better than the last world well except mabye that scarf he maybe blind... but seeing as he could Jigen(magic) be wary master...

Even as he dropped his hood the stranger spoke.

"Hello stranger, I was wondering when you were going to show yourself."

Stion shrugged his left shoulder, allowing the right side of his cloak to slide out of the path of his right arm. Beneath the layer still enfolding the right side of his body he gripped Cruas, casually.

The man had turned around, and presented himself fully to Stion. Interesting clothing, Stion thought, with a slight smirk. The style did not fit anywhere he knew of, and he had traveled far and wide.

"Yes," He began, thumbing his sword hilt. Had he seen me? If so, the man was far more considerable that he had originally thought. "Though, I believe you the stranger here. From where have you come?"

Despite a casual appearance, Stion was ready to move in any direction. Yes, even down. Years of experience had honed his reflexes to razor sharpness.

((Sorry for the short post, not very much to work with. D: ))

Havus unsure of the situation ponders quietly about what he should do next and in doing so unconciously took steps towards the stranger to examine hime more closely.

The Sun above starting to set setting the sky to a beautiful glow of pink and orange and with the trick of the light the strangers form seemed to resemble someone that nags in the back of Havus's subconcious.

Havus froze mid-step as he realized who this stranger looked like and started to panic.

Havus: Ha! It seems i can't escape you Arithus yet again you seem to have caught up to me *glaring Havus jumps back unsheathing Choco his sword and gets into a battle position*
I will strike you down now so this adventure of mine would not need to be! *Lowers sword to a Thrusting stance*

"Ha! It seems I can't escape you, Arithus. Yet again you seem to have caught up to me." Of all things, he had run into a crazy... "I will strike you down now, so this adventure of mine would not need to be!"

Stion could not keep his jaw from dropping. The man was threatening him with a sword for no reason! Closing his mouth with a snap, Stion settled back, dropping into a balanced stance. His right hand inched beneath his cloak, grasping the hilt of Cruas.

Slowly, Stion drew the blade forth, ready to snap it out in an instant, but concentration was key here. As more of the blade was revealed, more of its edge was shown to glow lightly. Beneath his cloak, the impurities in a diamond ring began to swirl. Red grew to become predominant, but then shrank away for a green.

Stion was a Crafter. He could make up spells on the spot, and cast them relatively quickly. Instead of drawing from a pool of mana, though, he had a little extra assistance. He drew from a font of magic in the ruins of a distant city. It had little effect on his stamina, but it required more intense concentration.

Choco: Careful Havus i feel a kind of different mana flowing into him rather then out this seems a little suspicious.

Havus: (in his head) ok gotcha

Both combantants circled each other as the night began and without the stranger noticing, because he was concentrating so hard, Havus created in the dark, with his feet as the circled, a magic circle into the ground. When the circle was completed it dissappeared into the dust from where it was created.

Havus: (in his head) ok everythings set Choco activate it anytime
Choco: hmmmm

Circling slowly, Stion held Cruas in a low defensive position, blade angling to the ground. The wanderer, beginning to near middle age, moved like a leopard, ready to pounce. His balance was superb, even while concentrating on the spell.

Almost...

Unnoticed by Stion, the crazy had drawn a circle into the dust. However, it mattered little, he was ready. Raising his left hand, palm out, he slowly clenched it into a fist. As he did so, small cracks spread along the floor and roof.

Stion had stopped circling, and now stood stock still. Except for his upraised hand, he moved not an inch. Suddenly, his hand clenched completely, the thin chains on his left glove stretched with the motion, and the runes flared to life.

His ring and glove were both lightly enchanted, the former affecting the elements, the latter, luck. The roof, the floor above, in actuality, came crashing down in that part of the hall way, while the flagstones that made up the floor shattered, and scattered laterally, in all directions. Quite remarkably, no dust clouded Stion's vision, and no rubble hit him. It all flew wide.

In the clouding dust, Stion swung into a doorway, and sidled along the wall. He allowed his cloak to fall about his shoulders, Cruas hidden within its folds. A light bit of magic pulled his hood above his hat, not full hiding his face, but enough to pass a once-over.

Suddenly the Stranger who Havus thought was Arithus did something with magic and suddenly everything was caving in.
Havus: "tsk have to use it already"
With a small hand gesture the spell set on the floor bursted into many plant-like vines and flowers that prevented anythiing from falling on top of Havus as he caught a small glimpse of the stranger dissappearing by the doorway.
Havus: "Ah he's getting away"
Havus immediately gave chase only to discover as he reached outside that the stranger had somewhat dissappeared or mabye....
Havus: (outloud) : "Choco can you see anything?"
Choco: "I'm checking master now..."

"Choco can you see anything?"

Talking to himself already... Stion thought. From his position just a short way down the wall from the door, this Choco made a very inviting target. Too far, though, to reach quickly.

Revealing himself was out of the question, as was moving. That left him one option. From his position in the small room he waited and watched.

Havus catiously walked around the ruins and the old abandonned remains checking shiny objects like the gleeming knights armor in the hallway as he passed by. As Havus passed through the shifting shadows a gleaming faint red light dimly lighted places revealing small pockets of magical flow in those spots.
