The anime or manga we read may not be it's original form... so my friends, I ask you...

What's the best form to enjoy something in?

We have...

Light Novels
Visual Novels/Games
Manga
Anime
Other
I mostly care if it's the original version

Go ahead and vote in the poll and then explain your choice, especially if you picked other.

For me... I generally enjoy anime, but I'm getting more into manga than ever before. Visual novels and light novels can be good if they're the original form too, because it usually gives the most accurate and detailed info.

I guess for me I pick the last option... I usually like it best in its original form.

In my experience, things are almost always enjoyed best when in their original forms, this means subbed and not dubbed anime, manga counterparts over anime, light novel roots if available, and Visual Novels are ESPECIALLY better than any of their adaptations. The problem with adaptations is that during "translation" you often lose some of the creator's vision in the process and wind up with an inferior product.

Anime are nice for their music tracks and visuals (sometimes), but as far as content and exposition you're always guaranteed to get more out of manga. Likewise, light novels offer even MORE content at the expense of visuals (though you can imagine the situation for yourself). Where VN's really shine, however, is that you're given as much content as a light novel with the added plus of music tracks, multiple endings/scenarios, and well drawn (sometimes) pivotal scenes.

But then, manga and light novel mediums offer portability, so it all depends if you like to enjoy your nerdy japanese stuffs on the go or not.

All of the above was probably too easy of a choice to add? ~

I'd say the original version too, regardless on which medium it is. But that doesn't stop me from taking a look at adaptations or spinoffs. Anime / manga are the most common ways to enjoy it and usually one of these is the original work, though I also try to read some of the light novels for some series whenever I can.

Also as said by Jon, dubbing often may replace the original concept and substitutes it for something that non-native people may understand more easily. Often it's culture references, proverbs, and such.

For some works that originated as games / visual novels and have detailed storylines (Mostly updated with the Tales series, to be specific), I often feel as if the storyline for the original game was condensed, though it's understandable to cut less important scenes out of a long storyline.

I care more about it being the original version.
I do tend to prefer manga over anime though..

Anime is the best medium if it follows the story from the manga or it's just a new series otherwise manga/book ^__^

I prefer the origin Smile it gives the true story instead of an alternative.

Generally, the first version I see is the one I tend to like the best. HOWEVER, the more details that are given in a series, I like going with the more detailed version, as I like to understand how things work, and what's happening at each of the steps.

That said, each of the different media have different things going for them. Blue and Kitsune did a pretty good job summing up the pro's and cons, so I dont feel the need to talk about it further.

Note to self: Those guys are good. -_^
